Definition
An AWB (Air Waybill) is an international air transport document issued by an air carrier or agent. Unlike a maritime bill of lading, an AWB is not a negotiable document. MAWB (Master AWB) is issued by the airline, HAWB (House AWB) by the freight forwarder. The AWB serves as proof of carriage contract, receipt of goods, and may function as a customs declaration.
