Customs rate vs NBP rate — what’s the difference?

The customs rate (Art. 53 of the Union Customs Code) is based on NBP quotations from the second-to-last Wednesday of the previous month. It applies for the entire following calendar month and is used to calculate customs value, duties and import VAT.

The NBP rate is the current average rate published daily by the National Bank of Poland. It is used in commercial transactions, accounting and for current currency conversions.

The difference between these rates can range from a few groszy to several dozen groszy, which for large import values can significantly impact the amount of customs charges.
