PL: Demurrage (przestojowe) | DE: Demurrage (Liegegelder)
Definition
Demurrage is a charge by the shipping line for holding a container at the port terminal beyond the allotted free time (typically 5-14 days). The charge is borne by the consignee or their agent. Demurrage can be significant, especially when customs clearance is delayed. Charges increase progressively. Detention is the analogous charge for holding containers outside the port terminal.
