Definition
An export subsidy is financial assistance from a government contingent on the export of goods. Export subsidies are prohibited by the WTO (with exceptions for least-developed countries). If subsidised imports cause injury to EU industry, the European Commission may impose countervailing duties. Investigation examines the subsidy's existence, specificity, injury, and causal link.
