EXW (Ex Works)

Transport & logistics

PL: EXW (Ex Works) | DE: EXW (Ex Works)

Definition

EXW (Ex Works) is an Incoterms rule imposing minimum obligations on the seller. The seller is only required to make goods available for collection at their premises (factory, warehouse). From the point of collection, the buyer bears all costs and risk.

EXW is most commonly used in domestic trade or between experienced partners. In international trade, EXW can be problematic as the seller may be unable to obtain export documents required in their country.

In the customs context, the EXW value is the lowest invoice value — all transport and insurance costs to the EU border must be added to determine customs value.
