Definition
An arms embargo is a ban on the export of arms, ammunition, military equipment, and military technology to specified countries, regions, or entities. In the EU, embargoes may be imposed based on UN Security Council resolutions or EU Council decisions (under CFSP). Current embargoes include Russia, Belarus, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Myanmar. Violation is a criminal offence.
