Definition
A CBAM certificate is a financial instrument under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism that importers of CBAM goods (cement, iron/steel, aluminium, fertilisers, electricity, hydrogen) must purchase from 2026. The certificate price corresponds to the EU ETS allowance price. Importers must annually surrender certificates matching emissions embodied in imported goods.
