CPT (Carriage Paid To)

Transport & logistics

PL: CPT (Carriage Paid To) | DE: CPT (Carriage Paid To)

Definition

CPT (Carriage Paid To) is an Incoterms 2020 rule applicable to any mode of transport. The seller pays freight to the agreed destination, but risk of loss or damage passes to the buyer earlier — when goods are handed to the first carrier.

CPT differs from CIF and CFR in that it is available for any mode of transport and does not include cargo insurance obligation. The seller is responsible for export clearance and transport arrangement. The buyer bears risk from handover to the carrier and is responsible for import clearance.

In the customs context, the CPT value includes transport costs to the destination. For customs value purposes, only transport costs to the point of entry into the EU customs territory are included.
