Definition

IPR border enforcement enables right holders (trademarks, patents, copyrights, designs) to apply to customs authorities to detain counterfeit or pirated goods at the border. In the EU, this is governed by Regulation 608/2013. The right holder files an application with customs, which monitors imports and detains suspect goods. In 2023, EU customs detained over 300 million counterfeit products.
